About Dr. Landfield
Barry Landfield, MD, in Greenbrae, California, is a highly experienced family medicine specialist located in Marin County, California. With over 45 years of clinical experience, he and his team are dedicated to providing a highly-personalized, state-of-the-art, academic, concerned and compassionate standard of care to every patient on every visit. First Med offers men and women throughout the Marin area same day appointments for sudden issues such as headache, flu and back pain in addition to annual physicals, chronic care management, general health and wellness appointments, clinical exams, EKGs, care for asthma, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, arthritis, diabetes, diet & weight loss and more. After graduating from The Bronx High School of Science at the age of sixteen, Dr. Landfield received his undergraduate degree in aeronautics and astronautics at NYU College of Engineering and then attended medical school at NYU College of Medicine. Upon graduating, Dr. Landfield completed his surgical internship at Maimonides Medical Center and underwent his surgical residency at Mt. Zion Hospital in San Francisco. His surgical training included being part of the team that performed the very first heart transplant in the United States. He was involved in basic research projects including the neurologic aspects of memory at MIT and neurologic function research at The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts. Dr. Landfield subsequently served two years in the U.S. Army graduating from Flight Surgeon School and stationed at the Aero Medical Research Lab designing crash helmets, fire resistant clothing, and innovative aircraft escape systems. After his military service, Dr. Landfield worked for eight years in emergency medicine in metropolitan and rural areas and then in 1980 started his general and family practice, which has been his passion ever since. He has been chairman of the Family Practice Department at Marin General Hospital since 2013 and was on the Board of Directors of Meritage Medical Network from 2002 to 2018. He has also been voted the Top Primary Care Doctor by the “Best of Marin Program” by Pacific Sun Magazine in 2017 and 2018 and has been voted one of Marin’s top doctors by Marin Magazine for several years.
In addition to his extensive expertise in general, family and surgical medicine, Dr. Landfield excels in giving time and attention to his patients to ensure they feel comfortable and understand the issues at hand. He has the heart of a teacher displaying an excellent ability to explain complex medical issues to patients in recognizable metaphors and vocabulary.
